Why bother?

What is the deal with people who put outrageous statements in their journals phishing for responses, only to delete any that don't cater to their expectations?

Sounds familiar.. like a gambit someone else I know uses on occasion.

How vague can a person be? Simply put you would get no sympathy from anyone here on the site because you are a virtual entity, and you haven't even made an effort to introduce yourself with a profile blurb. In your offline life.. that depends on how you conduct yourself. Your family.. friends.. and relations would be the better choice to ask such a question to. When I read your entry I immediately thought of another newer member who has done nothing to develop their presence on the site (getting to know people through interaction) yet she constantly makes veiled references to suicide, or dying.. which is obviously phishing for pity, and attention. So blurting out such exaggerated statements will more than likely have the opposite effect on peoples.. instead of people responding emphatically, you may find people apathetic instead.

Some people just entertain thoughts and feel they need to share them because they are so depressed . and yes some wants attention. Seems he or she would be better off calling a priest or a support group

Well stated, and that is what we would do when I was a Volunteer at a Crisis call center, we had to screen out those that came off as less sincere in their distress. After a while one develops a keen ear, and that leads to discernment. While no one was turned away fully we were taught to detour certain callers to other services. It is often the case with people who simply want company at their pity party will become dodgy when basic service referrals are suggested. They also self sabotage any directional approach to counseling.
